The power of face-to-face connection

In a world where messages are instant, inboxes are full, and calendars rarely leave breathing room, it’s easy to assume that digital communication is enough. But time and again, one simple truth proves itself: nothing quite replaces being there in person.

That’s something we were reminded of during our recent visit to cardfactory HQ in Wakefield.

Making it real

The cardfactory Foundation, the charitable arm of cardfactory, exists to support communities and create meaningful impact. While it operates as an independent registered charity, its strength comes from the people behind it – cardfactory plc colleagues, customers, and the wider community.

But people are busy. Between day-to-day responsibilities and constant streams of information, even the most important initiatives can get lost in the noise. That’s why getting out, being visible, and having real conversations matters so much.

Conversations that spark action

Spending time with colleagues face-to-face creates space for genuine connection. It’s not just about telling people what the Foundation does, it’s about helping them see where they fit into that story.

Whether it’s:

  • Supporting fundraising efforts through the Match Giving Fund
  • Nominating a cause close to their heart for a £5,000 Community Fund grant
  • Or simply understanding how small actions can lead to meaningful impact

These conversations open doors and turn awareness into involvement. And importantly, they remind people that support is there for them too.

Visibility builds momentum

There’s something powerful about being seen. From setting up in a busy workspace to showcasing our newly rebranded, eye-catching banners, visibility creates curiosity. The banners became a real focal point, helping us tell our story clearly, draw people in, and spark conversations that might not have happened otherwise.

Our recent visit to cardfactory HQ was a fantastic day for the Foundation team, spending time with colleagues, sharing the impact of our work, and hearing first-hand the ideas and enthusiasm from across the business. From volunteering to fundraising, there was a genuine appetite to get involved and make a difference.

We were also joined by Foundation Trustees Jo Thorburn and Georgia Walsh, alongside Ellie Saltrick (Fund Manager) and Pushpinder Gill MInstF (Head of cardfactory Foundation), making it a great opportunity to connect across the Foundation and the wider business.

A big thank you to everyone at cardfactory who took the time to stop by, chat with us, and make the day such a success, your energy and engagement made all the difference.

The energy in the room said it all – it reinforced something simple but important: real momentum is built through real connection.
