The ripple effect: Strengthening youth homelessness support nationwide

Sometimes the biggest impact starts small – growing in stages and spreading outward to touch more people and organisations than you might first imagine. That’s exactly what we’re seeing through our Bright Future partnership with Centrepoint.

From one organisation to the whole sector

Our funding has enabled Centrepoint to appoint a specialist external trainer in Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE), an approach that helps staff understand trauma, behaviour and emotional need, so they can respond with empathy, not judgement.

As Centrepoint PIE trainer Adelle Berman (pictured) explains, “This work simply wouldn’t be possible without the Foundation’s support. My role exists because of this funding, allowing us to move beyond just ‘managing’ homelessness to truly understanding the trauma behind it. Without this investment, staff wouldn’t have the vital tools they need to help a young person turn their life around.”

By training Centrepoint staff, knowledge, confidence and reflective practice are strengthened at the frontline. But it doesn’t stop there.

Nationwide impact: The story so far

Centrepoint is using this expertise to support smaller youth homelessness charities across the country. In Q3 of our partnership, which launched in May 2026, Centrepoint achieved these PIE training results:

  • 514 Centrepoint staff were trained
  • 48 partner charities were trained
  • 100% of staff rated the training 4/5 or 5/5
  • 444 reflective practice sessions delivered

Through these partnerships, PIE principles are reaching organisations that might not otherwise have access to specialist training, with expertise flowing outward from Centrepoint, strengthening services, boosting confidence, and improving outcomes for young people in communities from every corner of the UK.

Creating change that lasts

Adelle is passionate about the long-term difference this approach makes: “Our goal is to create environments where young people feel understood, not judged. It’s about giving staff the confidence and reflective space to respond thoughtfully to complex needs, rather than just reacting to behaviour. When a young person feels safe enough to open up because a staff member remains calm and empathetic, that is when the real healing begins.”

When smaller charities are empowered with this knowledge, the impact multiplies. Staff are better equipped, services become more consistent, and young people experience support that truly meets their needs. That’s the ripple effect in action.

Our Life Moments Fund was created to support young people through pivotal moments. Through the Bright Future initiative with Centrepoint, we’re seeing how that investment also builds capacity and raises standards across an entire sector.

When one organisation grows stronger, others benefit. When knowledge is shared widely, the impact travels far beyond where it began. That is the true power of the ripple effect, and we’re incredibly proud to be part of it.
